Finding somewhere special in Marrakech isn’t difficult, finding somewhere that feels genuinely peaceful is.

There’s something magical about arriving at a riad in Marrakech.
One moment you’re weaving through the lively streets of the Medina, surrounded by scooters, spice stalls and the gentle chaos that makes the city so unforgettable. The next, an unassuming wooden door opens and everything falls wonderfully quiet.
This Riad Solange Marrakech review is all about one of those places — a beautifully understated boutique riad tucked away in the historic Kasbah, where traditional Moroccan architecture, thoughtful design and a slower pace come together. If you’d like to find out more about the property, rooms and current availability, you can visit the official Riad Solange website.

Before You Book
Location
Kasbah : Marrakech Medina
Style : Luxury boutique riad
One of the reasons I loved staying in the Kasbah was its balance. You’re only a short walk from landmarks like the Bahia Palace, Badi Palace and the bustling souks, yet the neighbourhood feels noticeably calmer than the heart of the Medina.
It’s the kind of place where you can spend the morning exploring and still return somewhere genuinely quiet by afternoon.
I arrived in Marrakech with very little planned before heading into the Atlas Mountains to climb Mount Toubkal. If you’re interested in that side of my Morocco trip, you can read my guide to climbing Mount Toubkal here.

First Impressions
The beauty of Riad Solange isn’t loud.
There are no grand chandeliers or overly extravagant interiors. Instead, everything feels considered. Soft earthy colours, traditional tadelakt walls, handmade ceramics and warm natural textures create an atmosphere that’s effortlessly elegant without ever feeling pretentious.
The central courtyard immediately becomes the soul of the riad. Sunlight filters through the open roof, reflections dance across the plunge pool, and every corner seems designed for slowing down rather than rushing somewhere else.
As photographers, we’re always chasing beautiful light. Here, it simply finds you.

The Rooms
My room followed the same philosophy as the rest of the property : understated luxury.
Linen bedding, carved wooden details and subtle Moroccan craftsmanship gave it plenty of character without feeling overly decorative. It felt spacious, calming and incredibly comfortable after long days walking through Marrakech.
It’s often the small details that stay with me most when travelling, the quality of the bed, the way morning light fills a room, or opening the shutters to hear the city slowly waking outside. Riad Solange gets those details exactly right.

Slow Mornings in the Courtyard
Breakfast became one of my favourite parts of every day.
Served beside the courtyard pool, it was a simple but beautifully prepared spread of fresh fruit, warm Moroccan breads, homemade pastries, yoghurt, coffee and traditional mint tea. Nothing felt rushed, and nobody seemed eager for you to leave your table.
In a city as energetic as Marrakech, those slower mornings felt incredibly valuable.
Sometimes the most memorable travel moments aren’t famous viewpoints or bucket-list attractions, they’re simply sitting quietly with a coffee while sunlight spills across a courtyard.

Exploring the Kasbah
The Kasbah quickly became my favourite neighbourhood in Marrakech.
While the nearby souks are wonderfully chaotic, the Kasbah offers a slightly slower rhythm. Narrow alleyways lead to artisan workshops, hidden cafés and beautifully restored riads, making it an ideal area to explore with a camera in hand.
The riad sits just a short walk from the Saadian Tombs, one of Marrakech’s most important historic landmarks and part of the city’s rich cultural heritage. From Riad Solange, many of Marrakech’s highlights are easily walkable, including:
- Bahia Palace
- El Badi Palace
- Ben Youssef Madrasa
- The Majorelle Garden
- Jemaa el-Fnaa (around 15-20 minutes on foot)
It makes an excellent base whether you’re visiting Marrakech for a weekend or using the city as a gateway to the Atlas Mountains.
Photography Notes
If you’re interested in architecture or hospitality photography, this riad is full of inspiration.
The best light arrives early in the morning when soft sunlight pours into the courtyard, creating beautiful highlights across the textured walls. Later in the afternoon, the arches and balconies cast dramatic shadows that perfectly complement the muted colour palette.
Photography tip: Bring a fast 35mm or 50mm lens. The intimate spaces and natural light are perfect for storytelling images without needing anything particularly wide.
Riad Solange Marrakech Review: Is It Worth Staying Here?
I think Riad Solange is best suited to travellers who value atmosphere over extravagance.
Choose it if you’re looking for:
- A peaceful boutique stay inside Marrakech’s Medina
- Beautiful design with authentic Moroccan character
- A romantic getaway in the Kasbah
- An inspiring space for photography or creative work
- A quieter alternative to larger luxury hotels
If your priority is rooftop parties or resort-style facilities, there are better options elsewhere. But if you want somewhere that genuinely feels restorative after a day in Marrakech, it’s hard not to love.
Final Thoughts
After spending time here, my Riad Solange Marrakech review comes down to something quite simple: this is a place that feels more special the longer you stay.
Some places impress you with luxury, others stay with you because of how they make you feel. Riad Solange falls firmly into the second category.
Travel has a funny way of reminding you that some of the best experiences aren’t necessarily the ones you planned. It’s something I’ve written about before in How Travelling Changed My Life: Lessons From 15 Years of Travel.
